MONTANA (NMB) – President Trump hand delivered a letter on behalf of Montana Agriculture Tuesday, Feb. 25 to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The letter by Senator Steve Daines states that Montana is the number one producer of pulse crops and it urges for better trade negotiations with India on their behalf.
According to the Montana Department of Agriculture, in Hill County there are 184 pulse crop farms and in 2019 these farms harvested 119,200 acres which yielded over 250 million dollars in annual revenue.
Daines believes that current Indian Tariffs on pulse crops are hurting local farmers and putting them at a disadvantage when they export product to Indian consumers.
Daines hopes this letter will begin to help fix the current economic situation between India and Montana producers.
