Running Wolf fire reported in Little Belt Mountains estimated 82 acres in size.

(Helena) A new release from the Montana Forest Service says a fire in the Little Belt Mountains is continuing to burn.

The Forest Service says The Running Wolf Fire was first reported on June 24 and is estimated to be around 82 acres. The fire is burning in a mixed conifer forest southwest of Stanford, and its cause is under investigation.

To protect recreational residences and patented mining claims in the vicinity of the fire, crews are using direct suppression methods including construction of line around the fire. A helicopter conducting water drops is also assisting in the efforts to contain the spread of the fire.
