Havre, MT – Saturday night MSU-Northern Skylights basketball hosted the Stephen’s college as the first of seven straight home games.
Going into the contest head coach of the Skylights Chris Mouat knew his team needed to control the boards, and they did that.
“I was happy with how we guarded them and how we rebounded. I was a little discouraged with some of our shooting and some of our discissions tonight. You look at the scoreboard you got to be happy to win when you win but I think we can still play better.”
The Skylights outrebounded Stephens College by 11 total and by six on the offensive glass.
The Skylights shot 44% from behind the arc but Coach Mouat believes his team has not reached their full potential shooting the ball.
“HA, I thought we should’ve made more. I was happy we hit some really timely ones, two at the end of a quarter; I think Becky (Melcher) hit one and L’Tia (Lawrance) hit one. We had some open looks that you know our kids are going to make those, I believe that and they put enough time into their shooting to be confident. I think we haven’t had that night where everybody’s clicking and we’re really going from three. It’s a good percentage and I love it, but I still think the best is ahead.”
The Skylights will host six more home games before the end of the calendar year. Four of those will be conference games starting with Dickinson State on Saturday December 6, at 5p.m. Tune into KPQX for live play by play action of Skylights and Lights basketball all season long.
