HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – With the deadline for completing the 2020 Census having been moved up to September 30th, the Montana Department of Commerce is urging Montanans who have not yet responded to the Census to do so as soon as possible.
As of Wednesday, just 58.2 percent of Montana households have responded to the census, well below the national average.
Over the rest of September, Montanans in low-response areas will see billboards, social media reminders, television, radio and newspaper ads encouraging them to respond to the once-in-a-decade count.
Western Native Voice and the Forward Montana Foundation will also be reaching out directly to households in hard-to-count areas.
The Census determines the amount of federal funding distributed to the state, shapes local voting and school districts, and will determine whether Montana gains a second seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
