HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – 240 Havre-area Veterans are receiving their second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine today.
These 240 Veterans received the first dose at a clinic on January 21st. Just like that clinic, doses provided today were flown in on a fixed-wing aircraft from Fort Harrison’s on-site freezer to the clinic in Havre’s Holiday Village Mall.
This effort was made possible through the Veterans Affairs Health Administration’s rural vaccine distribution pilot program.
Havre was chosen as the lead site for the program, and MTVAHCS is documenting and sharing best practices to help other VA sites distribute vaccines to rural Veterans.
The Moderna vaccine has been shown to be 94 percent effective in clinical trials in preventing COVID-19 disease once the second dose is administered.
As MTVAHCS’s vaccine allotment increases, they will continuing holding vaccination events throughout the state until enrolled Veterans who want to receive the vaccine are immunized.
