HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Police Department says three people were arrested on Thursday afternoon following a vehicle pursuit in Hill and Blaine Counties.
Havre Police Chief Gabe Matosich says the pursuit, which lasted around 40 minutes, began at 4:28 PM on Thursday, when patrols on the east end of town observed a reckless driver in a white Oldsmobile.
When an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver began to elude and flee. The pursuit went through the east end of town, traveled southbound to 14th Avenue and onto Clear Creek Road in Blaine County.
The pursuit eventually made its way onto Sucker Creek Road. When the pursuit neared the intersection with the Beaver Creek Highway, officers successfully deployed stop sticks on the vehicle. The vehicle continued through the intersection before going into a ditch.
The driver, 31-year-old Richard Joel Meyers of Box Elder, attempted to flee, but was quickly apprehended.
He is facing pending charges that include felony criminal endangerment, driving under the influence (3rd or subsequent offense), speeding on a state road, driving with a suspended license, obstructing a Peace Officer or other public servant, operating a motor vehicle with suspicious plates and fleeing or eluding a peace officer.
He is also facing a probation violation, and is being held in the Hill County Detention Center without bond.
There were three other occupants in the vehicle, two of which were arrested. 32-year-old Samantha Jamie Jo Descharm of Havre is facing the charges of obstructing a Peace Officer or other Public Servant, false reports to law enforcement authorities, and has a misdemeanor Justice/City Court warrant. She is being held on $1,305 bond.
22-year-old Acoya Nathan Gopher of Box Elder was arrested on a Justice/City Court misdemeanor and is being held on $585 bond.
There are not believed to be any injuries caused by the pursuit.
Along with the Havre Police Department, the Montana Highway Patrol, Rocky Boy Police Department, Hill County Sheriff’s Office, and Blaine County Sheriff’s Office were called to assist with the pursuit.
The incident remains under investigation.
