3 Killed in Crash on I-90 in Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Highway Patrol says that three Laurel men – ages 38, 40, and 44 – were killed around noon on Monday after the SUV they were in on I-90 in Billings made a U-turn and struck a semi-truck.

The MHP says the men all died at the scene and were not wearing seatbelts. Alcohol and drugs are suspected factors. They had apparently pulled over to the side of the westbound lanes in their Chevy Suburban to check on an abandoned vehicle. They attempted to merge back into traffic by making a U-turn. However, an oncoming Volvo Tractor with Trailer was unable to stop and collided with the Suburban in a T-bone crash.

Both vehicles went off the road towards the median, causing them to collide with the cable barrier where they came to a stop.

The driver of the semi, a 36-year-old man from Georgia, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
