SHELBY, Mont. (NMB) – The Toole County Health Board met online on Tuesday morning to discuss their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Toole County Health Director Blair Tomsheck says despite there being 26 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county, there is currently no evidence of community spread, as all cases are linked to the outbreak at a long-term care facility.
“We are not (seeing) community spread at this time. We’re still watching the developments on that. And right now we’re not community spread. They are all shoestring-linked together, and that’s why we haven’t identified it as community spread.”
County Medical Officer Dr. Melanie Hardy, who is moving next month, reiterated her desire to resign as soon as her replacement is selected.
During the meeting, the bylaws were suspended for emergency placement of a new County Medical Officer. However, the replacement recommended by the board declined to take the volunteer position.
A special Board of Health meeting will be called on Tuesday, April 21 to potentially appoint a new Health Officer.
As of Tuesday, eight Toole County residents have recovered from COVID-19, two remain hospitalized and three have died.
