HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Public Schools Education Foundation’s Fossil Festival has become the latest local event impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The fifth iteration of the massive Havre High School Alumni reunion that takes place every five years was scheduled for September 4-6, 2020. It will now be held on Labor Day Weekend in 2021.
Foundation Executive Director Cheryl Morse says the decision to postpone the celebration, which was made by the Festival Committee and the Foundation’s Board of Directors, was difficult but necessary.
“There’s just too many unknowns as to what is going to happen and they felt for the safety and health of our community and our alumni, that that was the best decision to make. It was difficult, nobody wanted to have to decide that, but it was the only way we could go.”
Morse says they hope to host the event at the Great Northern Fairgrounds, which is the venue where it was originally scheduled to take place.
“That is the best place to have this event. We will be in contact with the Fair Board, of course, very soon. And hopefully, that’s going to work out. I think it will, I don’t know that they’ve got anything scheduled for more than a year away, but we won’t know until we talk to them.”
