Chippewa Cree Tribe Unaffected by Government Shutdown So Far

ROCKY BOY, Mont. (NMB) – The Chippewa Cree Tribe on Rocky Boy’s Reservation says that, for now, they are not affected by the partial government shutdown. Chief of Staff Richard Sangrey says that they will remain unaffected for about a month before they will have to enact furloughs and other policies.

He says that this week, the tribe will be looking into the polices and procedures they have in place for this situation as a precaution. Sangrey says that they try to keep reserves in place after they had to enact furloughs about eight years ago during that government shutdown.

Sangrey says the shutdown is hard on people who depend on federal money for a living, but for now, it is business as usual. He hopes the federal shutdown will be resolved before they are forced to take action.
