HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre-Hill County Library has announced that they are welcoming a traveling exhibit from Montana’s Carnegie libraries from July 18th-31st.
Residents are invited to learn more about the history of Montana’s 17 Carnegie libraries, which were built in the 20th century in part thanks to funding from Andrew Carnegie.
The traveling exhibit highlights the importance of libraries, the financial contributions Carnegie made to help build them, their individual architectural styles and the significant role of Montana women.
The original library in Havre was built in 1914 after the Havre Women’s Club received a $12,000 grant. The building, located at 447 4th Avenue, served as the city’s library for 72 years before being repurposed as the Old Library Gallery. The Havre-Hill County Library moved to its current location in 1986.
