HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Montana Farmers Union will be holding a workshop in Havre next Tuesday on the topic of Rebuilding Food Resiliency.
MFU President Walter Schweitzer says this workshop will explain funding opportunities available through the American Rescue Plan.
“Montana Farmers Union has invited leaders from the Montana State Department of Ag and Senator Jon Tester’s staff to share with us programs that they are proposing. We’ve also asked staff from Bear Paw Development in Havre to come meet with the community and talk about how to apply for some of these programs. We’re very early in these stages, and we’re looking for ideas and for the opportunity. I think it’s a great opportunity for the Havre community to come meet with our leaders, to visit with us about your concerns and find out how we can fix it.”
Anther topic that will be discussed is the MFU’s Meat Cooperative.
“This is a livestock harvest facility that will process cattle, hogs, sheep and even bison. And it’ll do it under a USDA inspection for sale. It will be a producer owned cooperative and it will allow producers to process their own livestock for sale.”
In addition, an overview of the Commercial Property Assessed Capital Enhancements program (C-PACE) from the Northern Plains Resource Council will be provided.
The workshop will take place on May 18th at 6 PM at the Chuckwagon at the Great Northern Fairgrounds and includes a free meal.
