CHOTEAU, Mont. (NMB) – After pleading not guilty to deliberate homicide on Monday, 25-year-old Erin Elliot Holcomb of Great Falls was released from jail on Tuesday after posting $100,000 bond.
The charge is based on allegations that Holcomb fatally shot 22-year-old Trysten Fellers of Fairfield last Friday morning.
The Billings Gazette reports that Holcomb faces 10 years to life in prison.
According to the charging documents, Holcomb was at a gathering in rural Teton County late Thursday evening. Just before 1 AM on Friday, a caller contacted the Teton County Sheriff’s Office to report a man had been shot in the neck and killed.
County Attorney Joe Coble told the Acantha that Holcomb was in possession of a handgun, the same type of gun that Fellers was shot with. Holcomb is also alleged to have told someone during a phone conversation that he had shot the victim. He is alleged to have fired at Fellers because Fellers was trying to arrange for sober rides home.
According to Coble, this was the first homicide in Teton County in nine years.
