HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – During the monthly Hill County Officials Meeting on Thursday, Health Officer Kim Berg provided an update on COVID-19 in Hill County.
Case numbers remain relatively low, with a majority of new cases in teenagers and young adults.
“We’re seeing younger people being hospitalized as well. Not sure if we’re dealing with a different variant at this point. We are seeing a different presentation of symptoms as well. The majority of people are not losing their taste and smell at this point. They are very congested and having a hard time breathing, having chest congestion. So if you have those symptoms, don’t wait around a month before you get tested, please.”
As of Thursday evening, Hill County’s active case count was at five, with one active hospitalization.
When it comes to COVID-19 vaccinations, Berg says public interest continues to decline. As of Thursday, 4,831 Hill County residents had been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, representing just over 36 percent of the eligible population (13,256 county residents are eligible according to DPHHS). 6,088 Hill County residents (49 percent of the eligible population) have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The Hill County Health Department held a walk-in vaccine clinic on Tuesday, and Berg says 19 people received the first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at the clinic.
Around a half-dozen locations in Hill County continue to provide COVID-19 vaccines to those that are interested. Call the Health Department, Northern Montana Health Care, Rocky Boy Health Center or your preferred pharmacy to schedule an appointment.
