Phillips County 4-H Fair Kicks Into High Gear on Thursday

PHILLIPS COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – The Phillips County 4-H Fair has a full schedule of events this week.

Phillips County MSU-Extension Agent Marko Manoukian says numerous activities are set for this Thursday through Sunday. There will also be exhibits on display that were created by the 4-H kids.

“I think our beef exhibits are really the ones that have grown in the last two years. Just through attrition, we lose kids as they get older and it takes a while for those younger members to come through the ranks and show the sheep and swine. And then they get to graduate after 12 years old, they are able to take a beef exhibit. So that has grown steadily from a low of 20 per head, now we’re up to that 38 mark now.”

The Livestock Auction is set for Saturday at 9 AM. People can participate in person at the Fairgrounds or virtually through Frontier Live Sale.

“Last year all we had was a video of the kids, there were no in-person exhibits. And then there was bidding online. This year we’ll still have the online option, but it will be a live sale. The kids will be present and there will be buyers there present to bid on them as well. I anticipate that we should be close to the same number in dollars as we were last year.”
