FERGUS COUNTY, Mont. (NMB) – The 22,900 acre Taylor Fire in northwestern Fergus County is 90 percent contained as of Sunday morning.
The fire burning 16 miles northeast of Denton, primarily on private land, was previously believed to have been as large as 30,000 acres, but that number was decreased due to enhanced mapping.
The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation’s County Assist Team (DNRC CAT) assumed command of the fire on Friday morning, when it was at just 10 percent containment. They will be turning command back over to local authorities on Monday, August 9th, when full containment is anticipated to be reached.
The fire was sparked on August 1st, and the cause remains under investigation.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and several outbuildings are believed to have been destroyed.
