HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – In a 3-2 vote, the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission has adopted a handful of controversial changes for the 2021-2022 wolf hunting and trapping season.
The changes eliminate quotas, increase the number of wolf trapping and hunting licenses allowed for individual hunters, extend wolf trapping seasons and allow the use of snares for trapping wolves.
More than 26,000 comments were submitted by members of the public prior to the vote.
Supporters of the changes say the state has an overabundance of wolves and negatively impact populations of big game. Opponents say the changes are inhumane and unethical and could drastically decrease the wolf population in the state.
