HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre Public Schools Superintendent Craig Mueller has confirmed that High School Principal Ed Norman is on paid administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
In a post on a public Facebook group, Lisa LaTray-Bigby, the parent of a student in the District said that a High School student wore a racially insensitive costume on October 29th, and that the response from the school administration was insufficient.
“(The student) should have had to change their outfit completely. Go home, shower, come back dressed appropriately, in an appropriate costume.”
Mueller’s emailed statement is below:
We are presently investigating this situation. The school district can confirm that the building principal is on administrative leave with pay pending the completion of the investigation. The School District will continue to honor staff and student privacy rights to the extent they are applicable as it works with legal counsel to handle this matter.
LaTray-Bigby says that she will continue to speak out, and hopes this incident can lead to change.
“We want to bring cultural change, education awareness. And we want the racism to stop.”
