Box Elder Man Arraigned in U.S. District Court on Drug Distribution Charges

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (NMB) – A Box Elder man has been arraigned in U.S. District Court based on allegations that he possessed and distributed controlled substances.

Michael James Lamere, 39, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.

The Grand Jury Indictment alleges that from January through September of 2021, Lamere knowingly and unlawfully conspired to distribute more than 50 grams of meth and a detectable amount of fentanyl and heroin in areas of Hill County and Toole County, including the towns of Box Elder, Havre, Shelby, and the Rocky Boy’s Reservation.

If convicted of the most serious crime, Lamere faces a mandatory minimum 10 years to life in prison, a $10 million fine and at least five years of supervised release. Lamere was detained pending further proceedings. The FBI and Tri-Agency Task Force investigated the case.
