HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) –The Hill County Commission convened on Thursday for their weekly business meeting and unanimously voted for a resolution providing prosecutorial assistance to County Attorney Lacey Lincoln for the ongoing case against Daniel Alex, a man accused of threatening to shoot District Court Judge Kaydee Snipes-Ruiz.
Lawyers with the Montana Department of Justice’s Prosecution Services Bureau have been designated as Special Deputy County Attorney’s for the case.
The Commission says that the County will not be charged any fees for attorney time.
Also at the meeting, the Commission approved the annual resolution establishing their regular meeting dates and office hours. Office hours are weekdays from 8 AM-5 PM, except for federal holidays. Business meetings are set for every Thursday morning at 10 AM unless otherwise noted.
Other action taken at the meeting:
- The reappointments of Bob Kaul to the Fair Board and Bob Vosen and Arleen Rice to the Weed District Board.
- The approval of a request from Wilderness Funeral Home to pay for the indigent cremation of Melvin Sherman. The total cost to the County is $1,550. The Commission had tabled this item for each of the past two weeks, saying they have not heard back from their Public Administrator. The Commission said Thursday they still haven’t heard back, but can’t hold up the funeral home any longer. Mark Peterson says they know Sherman, who passed away on October 2nd, was indigent, but are still awaiting on documentation.
- Approval of a request from the County Attorney’s Office to spend $7,092 on a new copier. The only bid the office received was from Office Equipment.
- Tabling of a Maintenance Agreement with Xylem, the manufacturer of lift station pumps in the County. The Commission said they are awaiting on more information from Xylem before putting the agreement up for a vote.
