James Kipp Recreation Area to Close for the Season

LEWISTOWN, Mont. (NMB) – Officials for the Bureau of Land Management’s Upper Missouri River Breaks Monument have announced that the James Kipp Recreation Area will temporarily close for the 2022 winter season on January 18th.

Day-use areas, including the boat ramp, fish-cleaning station and restroom facilities, will be inaccessible throughout the winter closure. The James Kipp Recreation Area is scheduled to reopen April 1st.

The closure is being put in place because the river surface is now frozen over, making it unsafe and inaccessible for recreation.

The Missouri Breaks Interpretive Center in Fort Benton remains open in the winter on weekdays from 8 AM-4:30 PM.

Those with questions can call the BLM at 406-622-4000.
