HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Once again, AARP has partnered with the Hill County Council on Aging to help seniors with their taxes.
Marci Bergren of the Hill County Senior Center says those interested in receiving this service should call 406-265-5464 to be put on the list.
“We’ll put their name and phone numbers on a list. And then the individuals working with AARP will contact them. So they need to make sure they are answering their phone. It may come up from the Senior Center, or it may be a blocked or a private number. We have to do that in order to protect the people that are doing the taxes, so they are not getting 15 million calls year-round. You need to answer the phone. If it is a scammer, just hang up. But you need to answer so you can get your appointment set up and know what’s going on and get your taxes taken care of.”
Priority for this free program is based on when people are put on the list, and the program provides assistance to hundreds of seniors.
“Normally we prepare taxes for 250 people and up each year. So yes, we still have room to get them on the list. The gentlemen that are working with this generally will try and get everybody in that calls up and schedule (them) as long as they are good at answering their phone and making the return calls.”
Bergren says this program is made possible through the work of volunteers, and rigid safety protocol will have to be followed in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
