CHINOOK, Mont. (NMB) – A Chinook man has been arrested and charged with seven counts in the poaching of two bull elk about 30 miles south of Chinook. The arraignment for Cameron Dow Overcast is set for March 7th in Blaine County Justice Court.
Court documents say that Overcast has been charged with two counts each of wasting a game animal and hunting during a closed season, as well as one count each of hunting from a motor vehicle, unlawful hunting from a public highway, and failure to obtain landowner permission for hunting.
The animals were discovered about two miles north of Cow Creek Reservoir off Lloyd Road on February 14th after Havre Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens received a TIP-MONT call. Wardens located two large elk and determined that both were shot and left to waste on the hillside on February 11th.
