
The Chinook Sugarbeeters faced off against the Hays-Lodgepole Thunderbirds Monday night in exhilarating, edge-of-your-seat action that had its fair share of close moments and miracle plays.
In the women’s game, Hays-Lodgepole scored a significant lead in the first quarter 15-6, and saw Chinook play an uphill battle throughout the rest of the game. By the fourth quarter and after some neck and neck action, the Thunderbirds beat the Sugarbeeters 39-34.
In the men’s game, it was a rollercoaster of emotions as the Thunderbirds were ahead by 4 points in the first quarter 11-7, but then the Sugarbeeters flipped the script and got their own 4 point lead by the end of the first half 15-11. The second half saw a one point differential with Hays-Lodgepole up 27-26 by the third quarter, and both teams duking it out in the fourth resulting in a tie 34-34. Overtime was another beast, with Chinook and Hays-Lodgepole playing a cut-throat game. At the end of overtime, the Chinook Sugarbeeters reigned victorious over the Hays-Lodgepole Thunderbirds 47-41.
Coming up next for the Chinook Sugarbeeters, they are at North Star Friday, February 11th with Girls @ 6pm and Boys @ 7:30pm. Saturday, February 12th Chinook will be home hosting Fort Benton, Girls @ 6pm and Boys @ 7:30pm. Both game both days will be broadcasted on KRYK-FM 101.3 and Hilinetoday.com.
