The Havre Blue Ponies basketball squads had a memorable cap to their Saturday, the boys playing the Laurel Locomotives and the girls fighting Billings Central Catholic.
The boy’s afternoon game proved to be a hard fought one with the Locomotives matching up again the ponies throughout the game, even tying up the first quarter. The rest of the game saw the Blue Ponies nearly matching the Locomotives but in the end Laurel squeezed out a win in the final seconds with the score, 48 to 42 over Havre.
The evening game with the Blue Ponies girls challenging Billings Central was hard fought and left everything on the court. It was a close and low-scoring game for the girls. Havre led in the first quarter and kept it close to the break, behind Billings Central 23 to 18. By the end of game Billing Central found themselves in the win column, taking out the Blue Ponies, 49 to 37.
Expect to see both the Havre Blue Ponies boys and girls advance to the State Championship Tournament in Missoula the weekend of March 11th and 12th.
