HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Actors’ Theatre is preparing to debut their original play, titled The Harvest.
The Harvest is a drama written by MAT Executive Director Jay Pyette. It delves into local issues by telling a story of a farming family that must confront changes in relationships.
“It’s really about the family,” says Pyette. “There are six adult children who are returning to the farm, the place where they grew up, and really confronting the realities of this new world that they are in: aging parents, pretty dire economic circumstances for the farm itself, and really just their own personalities. Most of them have left and they’ve become different people. As they’ve returned home and circumstances sort of spiral out of their control, we see a conflict between the siblings as to what to do in this new reality of theirs.”
Hill County Justice of the Peace Audrey Barger serves as the play’s director.
“The casting is huge. You need to get actors on board that can do a real realistic portrayal of the characters that Jay created. So the casting process is interesting, particularly in this case, because we had to find six siblings who could conceivably be brothers and sister. And then there’s hours and hours and hours of rehearsal and making sure that the props look good, that you kind of see the vision for the stage and how it looks, and the lights and the tech.”
The Harvest was supposed to debut the first weekend of March, but was delayed due to illness within the cast that impacted the rehearsal schedule.
The play will now premiere this upcoming weekend and can be seen daily from March 10-12 and 17-19. Tickets are available at www.mtactors.com.
