CHINOOK, Mont. (NMB) – The P.A.W.S. of Chinook Animal Shelter is holding a free pet vaccine clinic this weekend.
The clinic is first come, first serve at the Blaine County Fairgrounds Commercial Building on Saturday starting at 8 AM.
“You don’t need to pre-register, we don’t need any paperwork from you,” says Manager Alissa Hewitt. “It’s just come and show up with your dog. We have 275 vaccines for dogs, and I have 25 for cats. So it’s very important to just get over there with your dog or cat and you’ll get a free vaccine.”
The clinic is scheduled to be from 8-4 both Saturday and Sunday, but it will end once the vaccines are all used up.
“We won’t be doing another one this year. The grant expires at the end of the month. So once we go through all those vaccines we received from PETCO, that’s it, we’re done.”
On Saturday from 10-3, Dr. Tari Mord and her team from Eastside Animal Hospital will be providing rabies vaccines for $15 each.
“If you’ve seen a distempered dog or a parvo dog or a dog with rabies, this is not pretty stuff,” says Hewitt. “And it’s really something that should be eradicated by now. But things happen and we’re just happy to jump in and help where we can.”
This is the first time P.A.W.S. is putting on a clinic like this, and Hewitt says they are thrilled to give back.
“We’re very excited. We have some volunteers on hand and this is a first for them as well. So we’re going to just kind of dive on in and try to give back to our community the way they’ve given us so much.”
The clinic is sponsored by the non-profit PETCO Love, and made possible thanks to a grant for 300 distemper-parvo combo vaccines.
Hewitt says they will be hosting four spay/neuter clinics this summer and will provide more details in the coming months.
