CHINOOK, Mont. (NMB) – With the filing deadline having passed, the races for Blaine County offices are coming into focus.
The one contested primary will be for District 2 County Commissioner. Incumbent Republican Frank DePriest is being challenged by Kevin Mellville and Shane Fox. The winner of the primary will face Democrat Todd A. Jorgenson in the general.
The other race on the primary ballot will be an initiative passed by the Commission in March asking voters to approve a three-percent local option tax on sales of recreational and medicinal marijuana. If passed, the tax would go into effect on September 1st.
All other races for Blaine County offices are uncontested. They include:
- Republican Pauly B. Miller for Clerk and Recorder. Miller is currently a Deputy Clerk and Recorder, and incumbent Tammy Williams did not file for re-election.
- Incumbent Democrat John Colby for Sheriff/Coroner
- Incumbent Democrat Tori MacLean DesRosier for Treasurer
- Incumbent Justice of the Peace Perry W. Miller (Non-Partisan)
- Incumbent Republican Superintendent of Schools Val White
Primary election day is June 7th, and the General Election will take place on November 8th.
The deadline for declared write-ins is 5 PM on April 4th. The names of declared write-ins will not be on the ballot, but they can be written in by voters.
