MALTA, Mont. (NMB) – The Bureau of Land Management has announced the release of an Environmental Assessment for the proposed continued withdrawal of lands at the Zortman-Landusky Mining Reclamation area in Phillips County.
According to a press release, the proposed withdrawal would prevent new mining activities and disturbance of the public lands, as well as provide time to assess and monitor the effectiveness of ongoing reclamation activities.
A similar 20-year withdrawal expired in October 2020.

Search using the National Environmental Policy Act number: DOI-BLM-MT-L010-2021-0003-EA. Public comments may also be submitted via the U.S. Postal Service

The public comment period remains open from through May 3rd, 2022.

Once comments are reviewed, the BLM will send a letter to the Secretary of the Interior recommending the withdrawal under a Public Land Order.
