HELENA, Mont. (NMB) – Montana’s U.S. Senators have reacted to the leaking of a draft Supreme Court decision that is expected to overturn Roe v. Wade when it is finalized this summer.
Democrat Jon Tester said that if the draft decision stands, the removal of the fundamental right of abortion “will have devastating consequences for millions of women across the country.”
Republican Steve Daines called the leak “reprehensible” and added that if the opinion stands, “the Court will have righted an historic injustice and returned the power to the American people and their elected officials to enact laws to protect unborn children and mothers.”
The Montana Supreme Court has previously ruled that the right to privacy in the state Constitution protects the right to abortion, and several laws restricting access to abortion are currently tied up in the courts.
U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has confirmed the leak is authentic and has ordered an investigation.
