Havre Public Schools will not be adding baseball as a varsity sport for the 2022-23 school year.
The issue was discussed at a Special Board meeting on Tuesday afternoon, where Superintendent Craig Mueller provided results of a survey of students currently in grades 8-11.
116 students responded to the survey, with a razor thin majority saying they would be interested in playing varsity baseball if it was offered (51.7 percent to 48.3 percent).
Mueller and the Board said that they should do their due diligence before considering adding baseball, including an academic impact study, a transportation plan, and a financial plan for how to fund it.
Baseball remains on the table to potential be added as a varsity sport for the 2023-24 school year for Havre, but that decision will be made next school year.
