MSU-Northern Cross Country Laces Up It’s Shoes for the Frontier Conference Preview

The MSU-Northern Cross Country team is about to lace up their shoes for the start of their season.

The team is less than a week away from the Frontier Conference Preview in Helena and we had a chance to sit down with first-year Head Coach, Dan Lavy.

Coach Lavy shared what he is preaching to his runners this early in the season.

“Right now, it’s early in the season, and in endurance sports, fitness can take a while to build. So I am really preaching that they are going to be tired after the first meet, because we’ve been working really hard. Don’t expect your fastest time of the season,” says Lavy.

Ahead of their first meet, the team is focused on racing intelligently, according to Lavy.

“There’s going to be a lot of focus on our men’s first time racing at a new distance. There’s a substantial jump from 5 kilometers to 8 kilometers, which is 5 miles even. We have two returning athletes that have completed the distance before in a race setting, so really, it’s going to be race intelligently.”
