A tragic accident occurred in West Yellowstone on highway 191. According to a press release on December 28th at 6:30pm a semi truck collided with a herd of bison killing thirteen. Some of the bison needed to be euthenized because of the severity of their injuries.
West Yellowstone police are currently unaware if speed was a factor in the incident, however the press release indicated that in winter months it is sometimes necessary to drive slower than the posted speed limit.
It is also understood that bison can be particularly hard to see at night because of their dark color and due to the fact that their eyes do not reflect light.
