There was a unintended consequence of marijuana legalization in Montana. Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen explains that consequence.

The consequence has now been addressed by the legislature as well as Montana officials. Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen explains how.
“The legislature gave the department of justice $300,000 roughly last biennium, so two years ago, and that was for replacement of drug canines in Montana after legalization of recreational marijuana. So, a lot of your local jurisdictions just can’t afford one of these expensive drug sniffing canines a lot of training and a lot of money goes into those critters. So, we were able to run a grant program. We have funded a couple of dozen drug dogs across the state of Montana now. That’s one I’m really proud of and the legislature gets kudos for that one.”– Attorney General Knudsen
