An important recap of repairs and improvements as well as plans for future projects were presented by Havre Public Works Director Dave Peterson at the Monday City Council meeting.
Firstly, the city is repairing multiple parts of the west water tank. Dave Peterson explained, in the spring the aeration system will be reset, and the tank will be filled for summer irrigation. In the meantime, an elevated tank is being used. The cost of those repairs was $139 000.
Also, this fall the valves in both dams south of town were replaced. They have been replaced by a newer hydraulic valve system after the replacement was recommended by engineers. It was a two-and-a-half-year process that is now finished.
The city of Havre is also responsible for a new future project. In order to maintain their wastewater, permit the city is required to do a mixing zone study. It involves testing the river to ensure that no damage is being done through the city’s wastewater system. It is a $75k project.
There is also trouble with the aeration process in the wastewater facility. Dave Peterson explained that “they have got it fixed right now but it’s not going to last.” He figures that project will begin the next budget year.
