The Havre Blue Ponies Girl Basketball team split games over the weekend with a win at Fairfield (64-35) and another last second loss at home to Browning (58-59).
The Browning game was at home Saturday evening in the Blue Pony Gymnasium. After losing to Hardin the previous weekend (48-49) off of a made basket with two seconds remaining, the girls lost off a potential game-tying missed free throw and missed 3-point shot in the final seconds. The Lady Ponies trailed by one at halftime to an undefeated Browning Lady Indians team, before Havre was able to build a 10-point lead midway through the 4th quarter. With under 4 minutes remaining, Amari Calf Robe-Thomas & Mecca Bull-Child of Browning each hit a three and a two-point shot within a one-minute span. All of a sudden it was tied; Browning was then able to build the lead up to three points with under two minutes remaining before Havre battled back to trail by two after both teams exchanged shots and free throws.
The True Freshman Amaya Jarvis who scored a game high 23 points, was at the free throw line down two (57-59) in the finals 10 seconds. Jarvis made the first but missed the second, before Havre was able to steal the inbound pass and hoist off a potential game winning three that rimed around but falling out. Amaya Jarvis (23pts) and Avery Carlson (13 pts; 7 stls) both had great games that kept the Lady Blue Ponies in position to beat the undefeated Browning Lady Indians.
The Lady Ponies will look to bounce back Friday when they host Dawson, tip-off at 7:30PM.
