April 16th through 22nd is national volunteer week, and AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism has opened applications for the Volunteer Generation Fund. AmeriCorps Project Manager Emily Stock explains what this fund is meant for.
“Just like the name of the opportunity, this is about generating more volunteers. Specifically for this round of funding we have four priorities that are outlined in our notice of funding. Those include programs that are expanding, launching or improving high impact tutoring, mentoring, and other school-based services. So, really looking at opportunities that are engaging volunteers to address some school-based learning due to the COVID pandemic. So, really looking at opportunities to engage volunteers to get kids back up to grade level. We’re also looking at programs that are offering innovative solutions or approaches to generating more volunteers from historically underrepresented areas like volunteers from the Veteran and Military family communities. Persons in rural areas, persons with disabilities and we’re looking at programs that are actively engaging volunteers to remove structural, racial inequity,“-Stock
Any state service commissions, local non-profits, community tribal organizations and state and local governments can apply for the Volunteer Generation Fund at americorps.gov under funding opportunites.
