Daines Introduces CCC Enhancement Act

US Senator Steve Daines recently introduced the Civilian Conservation Center (CCC) Enhancement Act, a bipartisan measure directing the USDA and the Department of Interior to offer wildland firefighting training to Job Corps CCC students, paving the way to firefighting careers for young Montanans.

The act builds upon Job Corps programs, setting a goal of 300 CCC students per year to be hired. It also creates a pilot program to make use of CCC students to address lack of workforce housing for willdland firefighters.

Daines also sent letters to the Secretaries of the Department of Labor, Department of Agriculture, and Department of the Interior, encouraging them to increase use of CCCs to meet the challenges facing workforce development, recruitment and retention of firefighter and wood product industries.
