The VA is offering a scholarship program to anyone working toward an advanced degree in fields such as social work, psychology, mental health counseling and marriage family therapy as long as the recipient is willing to give six years of service to a vet center.
Michael Fisher Chief Readjustment Counseling Officer at the VA explains what vet centers are.
“Really what’s at the root of Vet center’s is bringing in Veterans, active-duty service members who served in dangerous places or experienced certain kinds of trauma, to come in and help set a goal somewhere in what we consider to be a large spectrum of services. Whether that is socioeconomic type services like accessing benefits over to the other side of the spectrum, which is dealing with things like, I’m going to hurt myself or I’ve experienced significant war trauma or military sexual trauma and everything in between.”-Fisher
