Thursday, June 29th will be the Northern Ag Field Day, sponsored by the Northern Agricultural Research Center.
Darren Boss, the superintendent of the Northern Agricultural Research Center, was excited to share about the three tours that the Center will be putting on.
“We’ll have agronomic tours. We’ll learn about all the new barley’s, winter wheat, spring wheat and pulses that are being grown in the area. Then we’re going to look at the beef cattle recovery after drought. Perennial forages and annual forages and how can we let native rains take a little break. The third tour is an alternative type of tour with alternative types of crops. We’re also going to take a really neat dive into precision agriculture and how that’s changed recently and how we see that moving forward in the next ten to fifteen years.“-Boss
Boss explains more about the work Northern Ag Research center does.
“The Northern Ag Research Center is the largest research is the largest research center in the state of Montana. It’s over seven-thousand acre. We have a four hundred head cow herd that we’re also doing work on. So, we take and do beef cattle research and we do agronomic research. So, whatever crops can be grown in Northern Montana, we do work on that.”-Boss
