(NMB) The Havre Northstars American Legion Baseball team currently sits at 16 and 0 in conference play and has won 10 games in a row. Head Coach Patch Wirtzberger says the hot streak has a lot to do with his pitching staff and getting some things figured out defensively.
“Our pitchers have been giving us really good Starts, our relievers are doing a really nice job and we’ve figured some things out defensively to make things hard for other teams to score and then offensively we’re really executing at a high level.”-Wirtzberger
The Northstars have 4 more conference games at home Saturday and Sunday and will look to keep the win streak alive. Lethbridge will be in town for a double header tonight (Saturday) and currently sits at 14 and 2 in conference play and is a team that beat the Northstars a couple of weeks ago in a non-conference game. Wirtzberger says Lethbridge swings the bats well and is sound defensively.
“They swing the bats. they can hit the ball really well and put a lot of pressure on your defense and then on the defensive side for them, they don’t make a whole lot of mistakes. So, you’ve got to earn your runs.”-Wirtzberger
Fort McLeod is in town for another double header on Sunday and Wirtzberger says his team will need to stay focused because it’s a short turn around.
“Just keep on doing what we’re doing. That Fort Mcleod team is getting better every time they get on the field. So, we’ve got to be ready to go. It’s a quick turnaround from a five O’ Clock double header on Saturday night to a one O’clock double header on Sunday.”-Wirtberger
Games times for the Northstars homestand at Legion Field are 5pm Saturday night and 1pm Sunday afternoon.
