The MSU-Northern Skylights volleyball program is in the midst of another week of Frontier Conference competition. After securing the first match win in the last five tries, head coach Jerry Wagner looked back on his team’s play and determined why the sweep of Carroll College this past Wednesday was as different as it could have been compared to the last four.
“The difference was we worked through a couple of rough spots sooner,” Wagner said. “We’ve been playing at a high level and we’ve had opportunities in those previous matches (that we lost) that we just weren’t able to capitalize on, but we were able to this past Wednesday.”
The Skylights now turn their attention to a team that handed them a loss earlier this season, Rocky Mountain College. Coach Wagner reminisced about that five-set thriller on a neutral court and said what his team has done to improve in the weeks when that match was played.
“It was a neutral match down at (Montana) Western (University) and we had our opportunities,” Wagner said. “It was a wrist snap away from us winning that match. We’re coming down to certain plays from finalizing that match.”
“We’ve only played three home matches the entire season,” Wagner continued. “So life on the road, we’ve been able to play at a high level because of our strength and our attitude. I think we’ll be able to go out there and fair well.”
The (9-10) Skylights meet the (13-8) Battlin’ Bears in Billings on Saturday night. Stay tuned for updates from that match and for the full conversation with Coach Wagner, click on the Sports Podcasts tab.
