Havre Trails Hosts Miles Butte Hike

(Havre) – On Sunday October 15th, Havre Trails will be hosting a hike on Miles Butte south of Chinook. Lindsey Brandt-Bennett the president of Havre Trails talks about the hike.

“So, we’ve had a couple hikes in the past year where we’ve collaborated with the Hays Lodge Pole high school science teacher Rod Benson and he has agreed to help us out with another one. This is actually on private land south of Chinook and he’s got permission to lead us up Miles Butte which is one of the higher points north of the bear paws there and it’s right next to McCann Butte which is another speak butte in that area. So, we’ll be able to see a nice view of the bear paws and the open plains to the north as well as McCann Butte.”

She also talks about when they will be meeting up.

“We’re meeting at the Bear Par Battlefield south of Chinook at 10 am so you’ll have to leave Havre around probably around 9:15 and then return time is probably sometime around 2:30pm so people drive out on their own and we just meet at the meeting point and kinda caravan out to the trail starting point. It’s not an all-day thing but it is a couple hours so just plan for up to 5 hours to be gone. It should be a great day, should be good, clear weather and Rod is always great at hike leader he knows a lot about geology, and he often will stop and talk about different land formations and geological history of the area.”
