The Havre High Football program (4-3) is playing at home on Friday night as they take on the Sidney Eagles (1-7). Head coach Jake Eldridge previews what the Eagles bring to the table and what the Blue Ponies’ biggest key is to having success.
“First and foremost, they’re big and physical up front on both sides of the ball,” Eldridge said. “It will probably be one of the biggest offensive lines we’ve gone up against this year and that’s saying something.”
“(Sidney loves) to run the ball, so offensively, the run game is going to be No. 1 (for them),” Eldridge continued. “But their play action game is very good, too.”
“Defensively, they run a similar scheme that we’ve seen from a few other teams,” Eldridge said. “We have to make sure that we can run the ball. I think that is going to be the key for us.”
This game will not be like other games that the Blue Ponies will play this season. 13 football players will be honored for “Senior Night”. Eldridge looks back on the time he has been able to spend with each of the upcoming graduates and shares how they have helped mold the team into what it is today.
“Those guys are very special,” Eldridge said. “They’ve been here since I got here two years ago when they were sophomores.”
“They’ve done everything we’ve asked as a coaching staff,” Eldridge continued. “They’ve gone above and beyond their leadership within the team.”
“They’re also a group of tremendous student-athletes and just people,” Eldridge said. “They work in the community, giving back so much by doing camps (in the offseason).”
“This team has been following their lead all year,” Eldridge said. “Everything that we have accomplished so far is a big part of what this senior class has brought to our table.”
The seniors will be on the field to partake in “Senior Night” festivities beginning around 5:40pm on Friday night. Kickoff of the game is at 6pm and can be heard on KOJM-610AM with Noah Friedman behind the mic.
