The MSU-Northern Lights basketball program is coming off of a (19-11) campaign a season ago in which the team finished second with an (8-8) Frontier Conference record. The Frontier Conference held its media day on Tuesday and coach Shawn Huse spoke about why the community of Havre has been such a good fit for him and his family as he enters year 22 at the helm of the basketball program.
“It’s a very supportive place. There’s quite an atmosphere here,” Huse said. “I think anyone who has been here and played (in Havre) would have to agree that we have quite an environment.”
“The kind of support that we get; this is a bit of a rockstar situation up here,” Huse continued. “We’re a pretty big focus on the Hi-Line.”
“It’s just been a great family atmosphere and place where I’ve been able to bring up my family,” Huse said. “They’re embedded in the community. It’s been a great fit for me.”
Coach Huse explained that there is one overall quality above all else that the Lights basketball team represents when they are on the court and how that represents Havre as a whole.
“I think there are a lot of consistencies you see with our team year in and year out,” Huse said. “Hard work and people that are tough.”
“They fight and they play hard,” Huse continued. “I think that fits this area really well,”
The Lights will be in action for the first time this season on Oct. 28 when the team travels down to Butte to take on Portland Bible College.
