The MSU-N Skylights basketball program is coming off of two wins against NAIA competition after being defeated in an exhibition at MSU-Billings last week.
Coach Chris Mouat shared with New Media Broadcasters how the team was able to benefit from the defeat and carry over the effort into beating Northwest University and Corban University.
“A lot of positives and a few things to work on,” Mouat said. “Heading into the next weekend, it set us up for some really good things.”
“I was really proud of our kids in both games,” Mouat continued. “All 12 kids played. I felt like all 12 kids contributed.”
“We were really good on the boards,” Mouat said. “The reality was we came out and won two games in a row against NAIA teams.”
Mouat gave the biggest key to how the team has been able to play well through these two games.
“The biggest thing for us right now is the effort we have been putting in (to) shooting the ball,” Mouat said. “We’re shooting 90 percent from the free throw line, which is No. 1 in the country. I think we’re shooting 42 percent from the three-point line, which is seventh.”
“That’s a small sample size, but you know what? We’ll take it right now,” Mouat continued. “Those are the things we have been emphasizing and all of a sudden, to see those results panning out, it’s exciting.”
The Skylights have been out of game action since Nov. 3 and will get ready to play again on Nov. 17 and 18 versus Stephens College and Vanguard University in Great Falls.
