MSU-N Volleyball Coach Recaps Season

The MSU-N volleyball program wrapped up its 2023 season over the weekend, bowing out in the first round of the Frontier Conference Tournament to Montana Western in five sets.

Skylights coach Jerry Wagner said to New Media Broadcasters that the team ended their season on a high note despite the result in the conference tournament.

“We took it one set closer and we had it set up for (being) one set away from getting into the semifinals,” Wagner said. “I credit the team for playing some great volleyball down the stretch. (We) took it into postseason play and just ran into a more complete effort by Western.”

Northern finished its 2023 campaign with a record of (12-14), which included four wins in Frontier Conference play, most notably splitting the series with Montana Tech and Rocky Mountain College. Coach Wagner summed up the season that was.

“We played some really good volleyball for pretty much this entire season,” Wagner said. “We’re in a totally different place because of the efforts of the team than we were last year at this point.”

“We’ve got some continuity, we have some experience, (which) grew throughout the year and we were playing at our best at the end and that’s where you want to be,” Wagner continued.
