(Butte) Residents of Butte might have taken an involuntary trip to the zoo if they happened to be driving around noon on Tuesday.
Viola, an elephant with the Jordan World Circus, broke free after being spooked by a vehicle misfire during her preshow bath.
She then moseyed around town for a reported 10 minutes, munching on a residential lawn and sauntering into the street before the circus staff pulled up beside her with a trailer that contained another elephant.
“She walked right back in and that was it.” said manager of Buttes Civic Center.
Both Viola and the Jordan World Circus still put their shows on for that day and performed without a hitch the following day in Helena.
