The MSU-Northern Skylights basketball team has had a busy offseason. From sports banquets honoring the 2023-24 team to looking ahead, coach Chris Mouat has had some time to retool the roster for next season.
The team signed Emma Wass, a 6-foot-1 post player, who last played her ball at NCAA Division II Alaska-Fairbanks. Mouat said of his new signing that the biggest quality of hers is to help the team in the paint with rebounding and scoring from up close.
“I think she’s going to fit into the program really well,” Mouat said. “We’ve had a chance to watch her play a lot of basketball.”
“What she brings to the table every night is rebounding,” Mouat continued. “A very strong rebounder on both ends of the floor.”
(She) can score the ball, but I like what she does on the defensive boards and on defense in general,” Mouat said.
The latest news out of the program is that a spring fundraiser is set to be held on Friday evening. Mouat gives the listeners details on what the festivities will include, which includes access to food and cash prizes.
“It’s a scholarship raffle night. We sell 25 dollar tickets that gives you two dinners,” Mouat said. “You can join us for hamburgers, hot dogs, that kind of stuff.”
“Then, we do the drawing where we pull all 1,000 tickets throughout the night,” Mouat continued. “People can win 50 dollars, 100 dollars, and then if it gets to the last three tickets, they win 500, 1,000, or 3,000 dollars.”
“(It’s) lots of fun (and a ) busy night,” Mouat said. “(The) money goes to Skylights scholarships, which helps with various things our kids need.”
The S.U.B. will be the host for the Skylights Basketball Fundraising Raffle and tickets are still available at the time of this posting. They will be sold until sold out and can be purchased as late as when the dinner will start, which is scheduled for 6pm.
