Housing issues cause lumber mills to close, may also cause resurgence in business.

(Montana) In a press release on March 14, Pyramid’s owners stated that the family-owned mill was making a decision to call it quits following financial hardship and housing issues for employees.

Five days later, Roseburg’s announcement cited many of the same reasons for closing.

However, a new report indicates that it’s the housing crisis that may drive the market back up.

Paul McKenzie, vice president and general manager of F.H. Stoltze Land & Lumber Co. in Columbia Falls, says that as the nation attempts to solve it’s housing crisis, the demand for lumber will go back up.

Some estimates say that the United States needs as many as around 7.2 million homes.
